Customizing Cuyahoga

Once you have Cuyahoga installed and running you will certainly want to customize it for your own site. This document describes how to install a different stylesheet (a css file) and describes how to customize the page layout templates for your own site.

Cuyahoga comes with two color schemes: red.css and Admin.css, which is also red! Well, I like blue so I created a blue color scheme that I wanted to share with you. In case blue isn't your favorite color either at least this will give you some hints on how to create your own colors.

1. Copy the blue.css file into the Web\Css folder where you installed Cuyahoga.
2. Copy the contents of the Images folder to the Web\Images folder.

If you just want to use my blue color scheme you don't need to edit any image. If you do want your own color just follow these steps. To change the image I used photoshop and simply edited bg-header.gif file and saved it under my own file name. The image is one pixel wide. I used the gradient tool to make a nice shading effect.

To change the title of your site in the home page you have to create another template page. In the Web\Templates folder, make copies of the CuyahogaHome.ascx and CuyahogaStandard.ascx files. Name them something appropriate for your site. Then edit them with any text editor. Just change the title and subtitle areas replacing the defaults with your own text.

No recompiling is necessary. Cuyahoga automatically sees the new stylesheet file so it now appears in the dropdown box for choosing style sheets in Admin.

To get your own site running, follow these steps.

1. Log into admin.
2. Create two new templates under "Manage Templates" using the two templates you created and the new style sheet.
2. Create a site, selecting your template as the default.
3. Create Nodes (pages) and child nodes (tab menus accross the top).

That's it!
Have fun and share your ideas in the Cuyahoga forum.
